Barbra Streisand - Prisoner (1978)

 July 29, 1978 - 43 Years Ago Today: Barbra Streisand had the Hot Shot Debut at No. 79 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with her single, "Love Theme From 'Eyes Of Laura Mars' (Prisoner)." This Karen Lawrence/John Desautels-penned single was Streisand's 24th chart entry on the Hot 100 and it debuted just six weeks following her leadoff single and title track, "Songbird," which many felt the chart life of that single was cut short due to the release of this single. "Songbird" had peaked at No. 25 just one week prior to the debut of this single, but "Prisoner" had been released due to it being the leadoff single from the motion picture, "Eyes Of Laura Mars," which starred Faye Dunaway, which just happened to be produced by Jon Peters - Streisand's then-boyfriend of five years. "Prisoner," did moderately well peaking at No. 21 on September 30, 1978 spending three months on the chart and continued her string of Top 40 singles. Many fans of the singer/actress consider "Prisoner," to be one of the finest vocal offerings of any Streisand single to be released. She was in full control of this power ballad but never lost sight of the lyrics which many felt she had during some of her earlier rock efforts. "Prisoner" remains a favorite among Streisand fans and aside from appearing on the now out-of-print motion picture soundtrack, it also appeared on her 1978 No. 1 compilation album, "Barbra Streisand's Greatest Hits, Volume 2," which has been certified quintuple Platinum. Barbra Streisand was the recipient of the Grammy Legend Award in 1992, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995, the Kennedy Center Honors in 2008, MusiCares Person of the Year in 2011 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015.   10cc's blend of musical invention and lyrical lament brought pop perfection to the mid-70s charts Pinterest Few bands survive for long with four equally strong songwriters, so it was inevitable  10cc  would implode one day. But in the mid-1970s they brought musical invention and lyrical lament to the British pop charts, appealing as much to John Peel's earnest student listeners as to Top of the Pops teenyboppers. Graham Gouldman had already written hits including For Your Love and Heart Full of Soul for the Yardbirds, Bus Stop for the Hollies and No Milk Today for Herman's Hermits.
