Andy Gibb - I Just Want To Be Your Everything (1977)

July 30, 1977 - 44 Years Ago Today: Andy Gibb began a non-consecutive 4-week run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with his single, "I Just Want To Be Your Everything." The Barry Gibb-penned single was so popular that following three consecutive weeks at No. 1 and falling to the runner-up position, the single returned to No. 1 after being out of the top spot due to The Emotions' non-consecutive 5-week run at the top of the Hot 100 with their smash single, "Best Of My Love." This was Andy Gibb's debut single release and his first of 9 consecutive Top 40's which include 3 consecutive No. 1's and 6 consecutive Top Tens. Gibb's recording career burned out by the age of 23 - as fast as it came to him at the age of 19. Substance abuse issues caused his career to collapse. Sadly, on March 10, 1988, 5 days following his 30th birthday, Andy Gibb died as a result of myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle caused by an infection brought on from many earlier years of substance abuse. It's important to his family that it was known that Andy was clean and sober and in recovery at the time of his death.
